- Portugal beat Slovenia 3-0 on penalties to reach the quarterfinal of Euro 2024, after their last 16 tie ended 0-0 following extra time at Frankfurt Arena.
- Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance to put Portugal ahead from the penalty spot in the first half of extra time but Jan Oblak saved brilliantly to leave the Portuguese captain in tears.
- Ronaldo redeemed himself by scoring in the shootout, while Portugal’s goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved three Slovenia penalties and Bernardo Silva scored the winning spot kick as Portugal booked a quarterfinal clash with France on Friday.
