- Three-time champions Spain comfortably beat Croatia 3-0 in the German capital, Berlin.
- Croatia had just found their way into the Group B game when the Spanish side quickly built a 2-0 lead thanks to Alvaro Morata in the 29th minute and Fabian Ruiz three minutes later. Dani Carvajal added a third shortly before the break.
- Croatia thought they pulled one back in the 80th minute after Bruno Petkovic had a penalty saved by Unai Simon but got the ball back to score, but it was disallowed as Ivan Perisic had encroached into the box before the penalty was taken.
- Spain’s Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to appear in a European Championship at the age of 16 years, 338 days, and the Barcelona winger set up Carvajal’s third goal.
- Defending champions Italy play Albania in the other Group B game later on Saturday, kickoff is at 9pm local time (19:00 GMT).
