- Spanish giants Real Madrid beat Mexico’s Pachuca 3-0 in the final of FIFA’s inaugural Intercontinental Cup.
- The match was played at Lusail Stadium, Lusail, Qatar, where Kylian Mbappe gave Real the lead in the first half. Rodrygo and FIFA Best winner Vinicius Junior sealed the win in the second half.
- Real are the UEFA Champions League holders and, as European champions, qualified directly for the final.
- Pachuca were the CONCACAF (North America, Central America and the Caribbean) representatives having beaten MLS side Columbus Crew in their continental final.
- The Mexicans had to beat Brazil’s Botafogo and Egypt’s Al Ahly to qualify for the final of this tournament.
