- Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee in the 2024 US presidential election, introduced her newly revealed vice-presidential pick, Tim Walz, at a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- The pair are gearing up for a November vote against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance.
- At the rally, Harris called Walz, Minnesota’s governor, a “fighter for the middle class” and a “patriot who believes in the extraordinary promise of America”. She also described herself and Walz as “the underdogs” in the presidential race, acknowledging her nascent campaign has been a “whirlwind”.
- Walz, meanwhile, reprised his oft-quoted and irreverent criticism of the Republican ticket: “These guys are creepy and, yes, just weird as hell.”
- Trump’s campaign slammed the Democratic Party ticket as “every American’s nightmare” and described Walz as a “dangerously liberal extremist”.
